Comparative evaluation of (peste des petits ruminants) hyperimmune serum prepared in goats and in rabbits

Abstract: Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) hyperimmune serum was prepared in balady goats and in white Newzealand rabbits utilizing the local strain of PPR virus (Egypt-87). An evaluation study based upon three tests, viz ; Serum neutralization (SNT), agar gel immundiffusion (AGID) and indirect fluorescent antibody fluorescent antibody technique (IFAT) revealed an immune titre of 2048 in goat serum and 256 in rabbit serum. Hence, preference was oriented to the goat hyperimmune serum as since supported by the easily obtained large quantities and economic husbandry required as well as low accidental deaths in donor animals in comparison to the rabbits.
