A field trial of lyophilized spirochaeta vaccine against avian spirochaetosis in an endemic area in Egypt.
|
|
Abstract: Local homologous freeze dried (lyophilized) spirochatea vaccine was prepared and applied on turkeys farm in New Valley province with satisfactory immunity in the vaccinated turkeys (control) 28 post vaccination, then monthly for 5 successive times. High level of antibody titre was produced, no deaths were recorded in the challenge immunized turkeys while all the controls were infected with spirochaeta and some of them died. It had been found that preservation of spirochetes in liquid nitrogen is achieved the most satisfactory results, as the spirochetes remained alive and infective up to 8 months of storage. This will save time, efforts and the number of birds used for keeping the organism by passage in the laboratory. Moreover, it will help to maintain the organism for mass production of spirochaeta vaccine.
