Studies on some Additives for reducing some enetric bacteria infection in Swiss mice

Abstract: The efficacy of various types of acids and some antibiotics to minimize or inhibit colonization of Salmonella typhimurium was studied in Swiss mice. The percentage of salmonella colonization in mice rations treated with formic acid and/or pripionic acid 10 days after experimental infection with Salmonella typhirium were 20 %, 20% and 10 % respectively. Meanwhile, after 20 days, the percentage were 10 %, 10 % and 0 %, respectively. The chloramphenicol showed complete resistance to colonization. Therefore, formic and/or propionic acids can be used instead of antibiotics for inhibition prevent of colonization of Salmonella typhirium in Swiss mice.
