Genetic analysis for productive life of Doe rabbit.

Abstract: The mean performance of lifetime production (productive life) was lower than that of other available literature; they were 39.2, 42.0 and 31.2 bunnies for total number born alive, total litter size at birth and total litter size at weaning, respectively. It was 8.1 months for length of lifetime production. The percentages of phenotypic variation for all these traits are relatively high and ranged from 31.5 to 43.3%.Year season of birth of doe in this study had non-significant effect on all traits studied. Litter size in which the doe was born was highly significantly affected total number born alive, total litter size at birth and total litter size at weaning. Estimates of variance components attributable to the sire were (4.46, 4.04, 4.84, and 0.22) and for dam were (13.3, 15.56, 7.15, and 0.16) for total number born alive, total litter size at birth, total litter size at weaning and length of lifetime production respectively. Heritability estimates for total number born alive, total litter size at birth, total litter size at weaning and length of lifetime production were low when using sire components and ranged from low to moderate when using dam components. Sire heritabilities were always lower than dam heritabilities. The ranges for sire transmitting ability for same traits were 4.9, 4.1, 5.9 bunny and 1.42 month when using the single-trait animal model, while they were 8.7, 7.5, 8.0 and 1.6 when using multi-trait animal model for sires with records. Ranges in estimates for sire transmitting abilities for sires of sires and dams of sires (animals without records) by using single-trait animal model were lower than those obtained by using multi-trait animal model. The overall ranking of sires changes much between both multi-trait and single-trait animal model. The ranges of dam transmitting abilities were 10.8, 11.8, 7.1 bunny and 0.82 month for the same traits respectively when using single-trait animal model while they were 17.7, 18.7, 11.5 bunny and 0.8 month when using multi-trait animal model for the same traits respectively. The transmitting abilities for dams of dams and sires of dams obtained by using single-trait animal model were lower than those obtained by using multi-trait animal model.
