INFLUENCE OF GRAPE JUICE ON THE RECONDITIONING OF RATS SUFFERING FROM CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE
Abstract: The present work was conducted to Study the effect of different doses from grape juice on the body weigh gain %, percent of liver weight/body weight, lipid fractions, liver and kidney functions of rats suffering from liver disease. Forty male albino rats (Sprague Dawley Strain), divided into two main groups, the first main group (8 rats) fed (BD) on basal diet as a negative control group. The second main group (32 rats) was treated subcutaneous injection with CCI4 in paraffin oil (50% V/V, 2ml/Kg Body weight) twice a week to induce chronic damage in liver. Then divided into four subgroups as a following: group/ (1) received B.D. only as a positive control group, groups (2-4) received B.D. and received orally red grape juice day by day with dose. 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 cm grape juice/rat, respectively. Injected rats with CCI4 which fed B.D and orally red grape juice day by day with doses 3/4 cm grape juice/rat resulted in the best improvement of the nutritional value in addition to the percent liver weight/ body weight. The mean value of serum cholesterol triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-c), aspartate amino transferase (AST) and alanine amino transferase (ALT) decreased in the injected group and orally administratec red grape juice with dose of 3/4cm/rat as compared to the positive contro group, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) increased. On the other hand all injected groups with CCI4 orally administrated with 1/4 and l/2cm grape juice showed a slight improvement in kidney functions (uric acid urea nitrogen and creatinine) while the results showed in the better group tha received 3/4cm red grape juice/rat. This study demonstrated that rats suffering from chronic liver diseases fed high dose from red grape juice realized the best modulating effect on rats due to its functional properties
