The Protective Effect of White and Red Radish Extracts as Hypoglycemic and Hypocholesterolemic Agents in Rats

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to investigate the chemical composition of two varieties of radish (roots and leaves of white radish and roots of red radish). Extraction of phenolic compounds by methanol (methanolic extract) from the roots and leaves of white radish and red radish roots as well as fractionation and identification of these phenolic compounds. Determination of antioxidant activity of extracted phenolic compounds. In addition, another extraction was carried out as aqueous extract from the two varities of radish to study the availability of radish phenolic compounds aqueous extract as hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic actions. Besides, to evaluate the quality characteristics, the microbiological examination and sensory parameters during storage of pickled radish roots.
