Abstract: The period from birth to two of age is resognizeed as a critical window for the promotion of optimal, heath and behavioral development. Breast-feeding together with complementary foods of anadequate macro- and microntrient density and appropriate feeding practices essential to ensure adequate nutrition. Such nutrient-densy foods are often locking in the developing world. As a result, many infants and yong children suffer from multiple micronutrient deficiencies and fail to reach their growth potential . the objective of this artical on recommended nutrient Composition for Fortified complementary foods was to review the scientific evidence and propose a macro-and micronutrient composition for fortified complementary foods. Our goal was to provide guidance for revising the composition currently being used and for the development of new foods. The period considered is from 6 mo through 2 y of age;since infants should be exclusively breast - fed for the first 6 mo. After age 2 Y children are assumed to be less depenent on complementary feeding and more likely to consume usual household foods.
