Effect of paraffin oil and glycerol on carboxymethyl cellulose Film properties

Abstract: The effect of paraffin oil (PO) and glycerol (GLY) on mechanical properties,
moisture uptake, solubility, haze, gloss and transparency (T) of carboxymethyl
cellulose (CMC) based films were studied. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) films were
contained different amounts of CMC (0.75, 1, 1.5 and 2 g), paraffin oil (10, 20 and
30%) and glycerol (20, 30 and 40%).1g CMC was the best concentration.Addition
both, PO and Gly to CMC films decreased tensile strength and increased elongation
%. Moreover, the effect of glycerol on mechanical properties was stronger than
paraffin oil (PO). Addition of PO to CMC films significantly improved moisture uptake
and solubility properties of CMC films. By increasing of GLY content, the elongation (E
%), moisture uptake, solubility and transparency of the CMC films were increased.
