EVALUATION OF SOME BREAD WHEAT CULTIVARS FOR GRAIN YIELD STABILITY AND LEAF RUST RESISTANCE USING GGE BIPLOT ANALYSIS

Abstract: Six Egyptian wheat cultivars were tested in six environments (two years of 2014/15 -2015/16 x three locations) namely: Giza,Itay-Elbarood andKafrElhamam, research stations of Agriculture Research Center (ARC) in Egypt to investigate the effect of leaf rust on grain yield of wheat cultivars. The GG Biplot analysis was used to detect the degree of resistance and stability of these cultivars against leaf rust. The design used was a Randomized Complete Block (RCBD) with three replicates. The results of combined analysis cleared that Gemmeiza 10 recorded the highest mean yield in all environments followed by Sakha 93 and Sids 1. Itay-Elbarood (E2) produced the highest mean yield across environments followed by KafrElhamam (E3) in the first season. Highest yield of (GE) interactions was recorded by Sakha 93 (24.26 ard/fed) in KafrElhamam in the in the second season meaning more ideal test variety. GGE biplot analysis indicated that the two first principal components (PC1 and PC2) reflected 81.09, 99.25 and 95.38% of the interaction data table for grain yield (Y), average coefficient infectin (ACI) and average under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). GGE biplot analysis classified the six tested environments considering seed yield into four mega environments. The results showed that sakha93, Gemmeiza10, Sids1 and Misr1 are high stable cultivars while Gemmeiza7 and sakha94 are of low stability. Also, Sids 1 cultivar was of stable yield but unstable for leaf rust resistance. Sakha 93, Sakha 94, Gemmeiza 10 and Misr 1 cultivars are of high resistance and stable for leaf rust disease.
