Shedding of young cotton bolls as affected by its Phenolic Content

Abstract: Result obtained from this study showed that in all growth periods of bolls the total phenol content reached its maximum and dropped sharply to a very low level before the end of the first 15 days after an thesis. Results also showed that during the second period (fourth week from the beginning of flowering) when the shedding percentage was at its lowest level (24%) the phenolic content was relatively lower than any other period, results also showed that there was positive relation between total and mono-phenols content of bolls during the first 24 hours after an thesis and the shedding percentage. These results may indicate hat there is some sort of relation between the phenolic content of young growing bolls and shedding.
