Influence of atrazine on linseed oil
|
|
Abstract: The effect of atrazine at the rates of 0. 25, 0 . 30 and 0 . 35 kg / fd . on linseed oil quality and quantity was studied . Gas liquid chromatograph was used for fractionation and determination of linseed oil fatty acids, hydrocarbons and sterols . Atrazine at 0 . 3 and 0 . 35 kg / fed increased oil percentage compared to control while atrazine at 0 . 25 kg / fed decreased it . Refractive index, iodine value, degree of un saturation and the proportion of total unsaturated to total saturated fatty acids ( Tu / Ts ) were decreased in all treatments compared to control . Acid value ( free fatty acids proportion ) was decreased in 0.3 and 0.35 kg / fed treatments , while it was increased in 0.25 kg / fed compared to control . saponification value . palmitc acid (c16.0 ) , steaic acid ( c18.0 ) ,and olein acid ( c18.1 ) percentages were increased in all atrazins treatments compared to control, on the other hand the percentages of linoleic acid (C 18 : 0 ) and linolenic acid( c18 : 3 ) were decreased in all treatments. The unsaponifiable matter percentage ( hydrocarbons and sterols ) as well as the proportion of total hydrocarbons to total sterols showed a gradual increase with increasing atrazine concentration . Squalene (cholesterol precursor) was increased in all atrazine treatments. Cholesterol was increased in 0 . 25 and 0. 30 kg / fd treatments compared to control..Campsterol, stigmasterol and B- sitosterol were decreased with increasing atrazine concentration . Generally, atrazine increased oil percentage, saponification value, saturated fatty acids, total hydrocarbons, but decreased unsaturated fatty acids, sterrrols and oil acidity. The decrease of poly unsaturated fatty acids may affect linseed oil industrial and nutritional properties .
