Evaluation the activity of some weed control treatments on weeds and transplanted onion (allium cepa, l.) yield and its marketability.

Abstract: The present study carried out under the field condition at Sids Agricultural Research Station , Beni Souif Governorate during 1998 / 99 and 1999 / 2000 winter seasons to evaluate the chemical weed control in transplanted onion . Nine treatments
Were studied to evaluate butralin at rates of 2.50 1 / fed plus one hand hoeing and 0.750 plus 0.750 1/fed applied as post transplanting . Fluroxyper at rat 0.200 1/fed and hand hoeing twice compared with unweeded treatment on weed growth and onion
Yield . Results indicated that loxynil at rate 1.5 1/fed plus one hand hoeing was almost comparable with hand hoeing twice from view point weed control and gave 97.7% and 90.3 reduction % in fresh weight of broadleaf weed in 1998/ 99 and 1999 / 2000 seasons , respectively , compared with the un weeded check . Marketable yield (ton / fed ) was higher with these treatments and vice versa with un weeded check where bolters and double were 32.9 and 40.1% in the first and second seasons , respectively , tented to increase compared to un weeded check . Thus , weed elimination in transplated onion by loxynil and butralin either used individually or supplemented with one hand hoeing can be recommended for weed control in transplanted onion .
