The influence of some growth regulators and herbicides on the viability of Potamogeton crispus L. turions.

Abstract: The viability of dormant buds of Potamogeton crispus L. turions was tested with Benzyl Adenine (BA) after initial treatment with (2–chloro–9–hydroxy fluoren –9–carboxylic acid –Morphactin cf. 125) ; 2,4 –dichloro – phenoxyacetic acid (2,4 -D) ; 2,3,6 trichlorobenzoic acid (TBA) and 2 – methoxy 3,6 - dichlorobenzoic acid (dicamba).
Initial treatment with high concentrations (200 ppm) of 2,4 –D ; TBA and dicamba did not prevent the resprouting of buds after BA treatment. However , a slight significant increase in the percentage of non-viable buds was recorded. On other hand, initial treatment with Morphactin cf. 125(100 ppm) had a marked toxic action
and the buds failed completely to sprout after testing their viability with BA.
