Effect of some weed control treatments on weeds and yield of three wheat cultivars.

Abstract: Two field experiments were conducted at Malawy Agricultural Research Station during 1994/95 and 1995/96 winter seasons to study the susceptibility of wheat varieties (Giza 164, Sakha 69 and Beni Suef 1) to bromoxynil (Brominal), tralkoxydim (Grasp) alone or mixed with bromoxynil and isoproturon (Arelon). The results showed that the mixture of Brominal and Grasp gave better weed control for fresh weight of broad leaf and grassy weeds than Arelon. Wheat varieties had no significant effect on grain yield (no phytotoxicity) during 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons. In both seasons weed control treatments significantly increased the grain yield of wheat. The increase of wheat grain yield is attributed to the increase of spikes length, spikes number, number of grains per spike and weight of 1000 grains. The highest grain yield was obtained by applying mixture of Brominal and Grasp during 1995/96 season.
