Effect of some recommended herbicides on some wheat cultivars and the associated weeds.

Abstract: During 1998-99 and 1999/2000 winter seasons, two field experiments were conducted in the experimental farm of Sakha Research station at Kafr El- Sheikh to study the effect of some recommended herbicides on some wheat cultivars and associated weeds. The studied herbicides were tralkoxydim, (Grasp 10% EC), clodinafop propargyl (Topik 15% WP), isoproturon (Arelon 50% FL), metosulam (Sinal 10% SC) and metribuzin (Sencor 70%). During both seasons, all herbicidal treatments and hand weeding reduced both number and fresh weight of grasses and total annual weeds and increased wheat grain yield if compared to the unweeded treatments. Data of the first season indicated that wheat cultivars significantly reduced the fresh weight of grassy weeds and total annual weeds. In this respect, Sids 1 and Sakha 69 surpassed other wheat cultivars and gave higher grain yield. At second season, data revealed that wheat cultivars insignificantly affected both number and fresh weight of total annual weeds. Meanwhile, wheat cultivars significantly affected wheat grain yield. Both wheat cultivars; Gemmieza 7 and Gemmieza 5 were superior to other cultivars in grain yields. The interaction between wheat cultivars and weed control treatments indicated that Topik 15% under Sids cultivar gave the most effective treatment in controlling grassy weeds. No significant differences on grain yield were obtained due to the interaction between weed control treatments and wheat cultivars at first season. Meanwhile, data of the second season showed non-significant effects on both number and fresh weight of grasses and total annual weeds also showed non-significant effect on wheat grain yield. However, fresh weight of broadleaved weeds significantly affected by weed control treatments and wheat cultivars.
