Influence of the method of application of herbicides on faba beans yield and associated weeds

Abstract: Field experiments were carried out for two successive seasons to investigate The influence of the method of application of herbicides i. e. spraying or broadcasting
as a mixture with superphosphate , on weed control , seed yield and yield components
of faba beans .
The results indicated that hand – hoeing , topogard at 1.5 kg / fed , terbutryn at 1.25 kg /fed and linuron at 1.0 kg /fed + dinitramine at 1.0 1 /fed were the best treatments in controlling Medicago hispida , Beta vulgaris , and Ammi Spp . , and improving the yield and yield components of faba beans .
Results failed to show any significant differences in weed control or yield which Can be attributed to the method of application of a given herbicide especially those with high efficiency . In the case or hrbicides of lower efficiency e . g . Linuron at 1.0 kg /fed., the broadcasting method gave significantly lower control of Medicago hispida compared to the spraying method ; but this difference was observed in one
Season only .
It is concluded from the results obtained from this study that broadcasting of herbicides as an alternative to the spraying method can be recommended for the application of efficient herbicide when spraying equipment are not available providing that the herbicide is distributed evenly on the soil surface at the site of application .
