Influence of atrazine formulayions and application methods on weed management and yield of maize

Abstract: Field experiments were carried out for two successive seasons , I . e . 1989 and 1990 at Mallawy Agricultural Research Station , Agricultural Ressearch Center (A. R . C . ) Ministry of Agriculture to investigate the efficacy of different formulations of atrazine ; applied at different times by different methods in weed control ; grain yield and yield components of maize .
The results indicate that the best chemical treatment was that of atrazine wettable Powder (80% Wp ) , when sprayed as pre – emergence treatment followed by the same treatment but used as broadcasting treatment and the flowable formulation ( 50% flw . ) when sprayed as pre –emergence treatment . The latter two treatments were significantly similar to the former treatment in both seasons .
The results provide that it is possible to replace spraying the wettable powder by the broadcasting method as pre – emergence treatment and also to replace the wettable by the flowable formulation to be sprayed as preemergence treatment without any significant loss of efficacy in weed control or yield and with less possibility of residual effect on the following crop .
