Effect of certain herbicides on linseed oil quality and quantity

Abstract: The ifluence of some herbicides (I. e. bromoxynil “ brominal or brominex,ioxynil, bentazon , iontrel at 0.3 and 0.5 L / fed ) for controlling weeds in flax on linseed oil quality and quantity was studied . Gas liquid chromatographic analysis was used to determine the main responses of fatty acids, hydrocarbons and sterols of linseed oil to herbicidal treatments . Lontrel and bromoxynil (brominal ) both at 0.5 L /fed increased linseed oil content while other treatments reduced this parameter . Concerning refractive index , both formulation of bromoxynil at 0.5 L / fed. gave the highest refractive index followed by bentazon at 0.5 L / fed . and Lontrel at 0.3 L / fed . Lontrel at 0.5 L /fed . , loxynil and bromxynil ( brominal ) Both at 0.5 L / fed . gave the lowest acid value . The saponification value inceased in all treatments except that of ioxynil which gave the same value of the control . All treatments promoting the formation of new short chain fatty acids such as Enanthic (C7 :0 ), caprylic ( C8 : 0 ), pelargonic ( C9 : 0 ) and capric ( C10 : 0 )acids as indicated by the saponification value and unsaturated pentadecaneic acid(C15 : 1) . The ratio between unsaturated and saturated fatty acids also is in the benefit of saturated ones . The most effective treatment in this respect was bromoxynil ( brominex ). The main unsaturated fatty acids in linseed oil is(C18 : 3)Which decreased widely due to all herbicidal treatments . The unsaponificable Matter increased in all treatments. Bromoxynil (brominex )gave the highest Amount compared to untreated control . It was noticed that all treatments decreased the amount of main hydrocarbon in linseed oil docosane (C22 ) compared to the control . Bromoxynil ( brominex ) gave the lowest value of (C22) . On the Contrary , tetracosane ( C24 ) hydrocarbon increased as a result of all herbicidal Treatments . A decrease in sterols concentration was observed in all treatments. ItWas also noticed that herbicides such as bromoxynil (brominex ) , inoxynil and Lontrel promoted the synthesis of new sterols .
