The activity of certain herbicides on weeds and yield of wheat as affected by different irrigation levels

Abstract: Experiments were carried out in two successive seasons ( 1981 / 1982 )At Giza
Agric . Station to study the effect of three herbicides on weed control and yield of
wheat ( G – 157 ) as affected by three different irrigation levels . The herbicides used
were , bromoxynil , bentazone and ioxynil , each at 1 .0 L / fed . The irrigation was
carried out when the depletion levels reached 40 % , 60 % or 80 % of available soil
Moisture (ASM ) . The results obtained could be summarized in the following :
1 – All herbicides significantly controlled broad – leaved weeds as compared by the
unweeded treatment ( control ) .
2 – Most herbicides used had no effect on grasses as Afena fatus and Cyperus
Rotondus .
3 – Irrigation at 40 % depletion (ASM) gave best weed control as compared with
the two other levels .
4 – The highest grain and straw yield were obtained from the wet treatment (40 % )
with ioxynil at the rate of 1 . 0 L. / fed .
