Herbicidal effects on the yield of rice and its components

اثر مبيدات الحشائش علي المحصول ومكوناته في الأرز

Abstract: The influence of chemical and mechanical weed control on rice components , straw and grain yield was studied in two seasons , I . e . 1972 and 1973 . The chemicals used were trifluralin at the rate of 1 , 2 and 3 litre / feddan , propanil at the rate of 5 , 6 and 7 L / feddan and 2 , 4 , - D at the rate of 0.5 , 1 .0 and 1 .5 L/ feddan , in addition to the hand – weeded treatments .
Treflan at the rate of 2 L / feddan gave the tallest plants , although there were no significant differences between all the treatments in this respect . Most of the chemical and hand – weeded treatments gave better results in the number and dry weight of leaves , tillers , spikes and grains / plant . No significant difference in weight of 100 grains was noticed in any of the treatments . Treflan at the rate of 2 L/ feddan and propanil at the rate of 7 L / feddan gave the best results . for grain yield . The higher rates of the latter two herbicides also gave the best results in straw yield . The results showed no significant increase in the grain and straw yield with all 2, 4 – D treatments as compared with the hand – weeded treatments ; on the contrary , the twice hand – weeded treatment gave a higher grain yield than all 2 , 4 – D treatments .
