Chemical weed control in rice fields

Abstract: The effects of triflualin at the rate of 1 , 2 , and 3 L . / feddan , propanil at the rate of 5 , 6 and 7 L . / feddan and 2 , 4 – D at the rate of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 L . / feddan in the control of annual and perennial weeds in rice fields ( Nahda cultivar ) in two successive seasons (1972 and 1973 ) were studied .
The results indicated that both propanil and trifluralin at the higher levels tested gave satisfactory control of most annual and porennial weeds and were more efficient in this respect than the twice hand weeded treatment. Although 2 , 4 – D was effective in controlling certain annual weeds , especially cyprus difforais L . , it was the least effective in controlling most of the other annual and perennial weeds and was inferior in this respect to the twice hand – weeded treatment .
