Effect of mineral nitrogen fertilizer levels, addition of biofertilizer and plant spacing on growth, yield and yield components of maize in sandy soil

Abstract: Two field experiments were conducted during 2001 and 2002 summer seasons at the experimental farm of Agriculture Research Station, Ismailia, Egypt to investigate the effect of some mineral nitrogen fertilizer rates; (60. 90 and 120 kg N/fed). With or without microbin addition (as biofertilizer ) and three interspacing treatments (20.25 and 30 cm) on growth yield and yield components of maize cv. ( S.C.10) in sandy soil . The results indicated that increased nitrogen level up to 120 kg N/fed generally increased growth. Yield and yield component of maize . Microbin as nitrogen bio-fertilizer behaved the same similar effect and up to the highest level of mineral fertilizer indicating that still microbin act as components. The interaction effect of nitrogen fertilizer rate and inoculation with microbin inocula on yield and yield components increased with increasing nitrogen fertilizer up to 120k N/fed whether maize seeds were inoculated with microbin or remained without inculation. On other hand, all values of these traits when maize was inoeclated with microbin exceeded those of uninoculated maize. Date on the utilization rate of nitrogen fertilizer also revealed that maize plants response to biofertilizer was more apparent when plants were fertilized with lowest dose, i.e, 60 kg N/fed. The data also evidenced that intraspacing had significant effect on growth, yield and yield components ( in most traits ) of maize. Planting at 25cm apart gave the highest grain yield, whereas seeding at 20cm apart resulted in lowest yield . Data on the combined effect of all interactions revealed that maximum grain yield of maize were obtained when 120kg N/fed with microbin were applied to maize grown at 25cm. apart.
