Influence of elemental sulphurapplication and micronutrients fertilization on some soil propertierties and yield of sunflower

Abstract: Two field experiment were conducted in a sandy loam soil at Experimental Farm of the Agricultural Research Station, New valley Governorate during summer seasons 2002 and 2003 under drip irrigation system to the effect of elemental sulphur application at different methods and micronutrients (Fe + Mn + Zn) application as soil fertilization or foliar spray on soil PH, available micronutrients as well as on sunflower yield and its attributes. Results reveal that elemental S application significantly reduced PH values in the soil and consequently increased the concentration of Fe, Mn and Zn especially when S was applied in two doses ( 50% at per-planting + 50% after 30 days from planting ) through growth period of sunflower plants. Sulphur application twice in combination with soil micronutrients fertilization significantly increased yield and yield attributes, oil% and oil production and Fe, Mn & Zn contents in sunflower leaves. The relative increase in seed yield due to S application in two doses reached to 36.3% and 36.9% over the control for 2002 and 2003 seasons, respectively
