Using some statistical techniques in estimating stability degrees for some sesame strains

Abstract: Six field experiments were carried out during 1999, 2000 and 2001 seasons, three in old land at Shandaweel Research Station and three in new reclaimed soil of west Tahta. The materials used were composed of twelve genotypes of sesame including three introduced strains, eight promising strains and commercial variety Giza 32. Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications was used. The measured traits in each season were seed yield/plant (gm), 1000- seed weight (gm), plant height ( cm) and seed oil percentage (%). Phenotypic stability parameters computed as outlined by Eberhart and Russell (1966) and the genotpic stability estimates calculated according to Tai (1971).

Regarding Phenotypic Stability according to Eberhart and Russell (1966), the results indicted that the following genotypes were characterized by general and specific stability .
• Genotypes no.4, 8, 10 and 11 for seed yield/plant.
• Genotypes no.1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11 and 12 for plant height.
• Genotypes no.1, 2, 4, 6, 7. 8, 10 and 11 for 1000 –seed weight .
• Genotypes no.1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 for oil percentage.
Concerning genotypic stability as estimated by Tai (1971) method, the results
Results showed that genotypes no. 5 and 7 has above average degree of stability for seed yield/plant. Genotype no. 8 recorded above average of stability and genotypes no. 2 and 7 showed a stability of below average degree for 1000-seed weight. Different degrees of stability were shown by sesame genotypes for plant height as follows: genotypes no.5 and 12 has above average of stability. Genotypes no. 6 and 8 showed average degree of stability. Genotypes no. 2, 3, and 9 had stability of below average degree. With respect to oil percentage, genotypes no 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 showed average degree of genotypic stability
