The performance and statistical techniques in estimating stability degrees for some durum wheat genotypes

Abstract: The present investigation was carried out during 1999/2000, 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons, at three experimental farms Agric. Research. Station in Kom Ombo, New Valley and El mattana. The materials used were composed of twelve genotypes of durum wheat including eleven exotic durum wheat lines and Sohag 3 as local check.

Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications was used. The measured traits in each season were grain yield ard/fed., days to heading and maturity. Phenotypic stability parameters were computed as outlined by Eberhart and Russell (1966) and the genotypic stability estimates were calculated according to Tai (1971). The obtained results could be summarized as follows:

1. The combined analysis of variance for the studied traits revealed highly significant differences among genotypes, environments and GxE (linear) was significant for grain yield ard./fed and days to maturity. Genotype no. 3 was the highest in grain yield ard./fed. and days to maturity.

2 - Phenotypic stability according to Eberhart and Russell (1966) indicated that genotypes no. 3, 4, 5, and 7 for grain yield ard./fed. and genotype no 3, 4, 2, 9 and 5 for days to maturity could be grown under wide range of environments.

3 – Genotypic stability as estimated by Tai (1971) method, cleared that genotypes no. 2, 8, 9 and 11 had above average degree of stability for grain yield ard./fed. Whereas genotype no. 12 recorded average degree of stability and genotypes no. 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 showed a stability of below average degree. With respect to days to maturity, genotype no.8 exhibited average of stability while genotype no. 7 had stability of below average.
