effect of storage conditions (t °c and rh %) and packaging materials on germination percentage of onion and sunflower seeds

Abstract: Onion and sunflower seeds stored in different packaging
Materials under various storage temperature and relative humidity (RH). Then, the germination percentage and moisture content of the seed were determined after 1, 2 and 3 weeks. The germination percentage has decreased significantly when the seed was stored in a packaging of jute, woven polyethylene and cloth at the higher relative humidity (75%). the reduction in seed germination increased as the storage period and temperature increased. furthermore, seeds of the two cvs of onion or sunflower didn’t react the same to storage conditions ( T and RH ) . the seed moisture content has reached ( approximately ) twice times the level before storage . on the other hand , no significant change in seed germination or moisture has taken place when the seed was stored in a packaging of polyethylene films coated , or not , jute or cloth , and when the seed stored at the lower relative humidity (32% )
