Effect of Herbicdes on Maize and The Following Legume Crops. I. Maize and Associated Weeds

Abstract: ABSTRACT

Tow Field experiment were carried out in the Agricultural Experimental Research Station at Sids , Beni_Suef Governorate during two successive summer seasons of 1991 and 1992 , to study the effect of five weed control treatments including the herbicides; Gesaprim, Primextra, Bladex/atrazine, and two hoeings with un_weeded check on associated weeds yield and yield components of maize. The combined results indicated that two hand hoeing was the best treatment for controlling the annual weeds . However , the best chemical treatment , with regards to weed elimination, yield and yield components of maize was Bladex/atrazine ( 2kg/fed.) followed by Primextra ( 1.5 kg/fed) and Gesaprim (0.75 kg/fed) in maize , ear length , ear diameter , ear weight , grain weight /ear and 100-kernel weight were significantly increased with all weed control treatments compared to unweeded check.
