Effect of Herbicides on Maize and The Following Legume Crops:Ii-The Residual Effect on Winter Legume Crops.

Abstract: ABSTRACT

Two field experiments were conducted at Sids Agricultural research Station during the summer seasons of 1991 and 1992 to study the herbicidal treatments of Gesaprim ( 0.75 kg) , Primextra (1.5 kg) , and Bladex/atrazine (2 kg)/ fed.(Feddan= 0.42 ha), compared to hand hoeing and unweeded treatments in maize . the investigation was extended in the winter season to diagnose the residual effect of maize herbicides on winter legume crops; faba been , lentil and chickpea . the results indicated that residule effect of maize herbicides had no significant effect on growth of weeds , seed yield and yield components of the succeeding faba bean , lentil and chickpea . Hence , these herbicides can be safely used in maize without causing any damage to following winter legume crops.
