Performance of Some F5 Segregants Derived From Four Lentil Crosses

Abstract: ABSTRACT

F3,F4 and F5 populations of four lentil crosses among two local cultivars ( Giza9 and Giza370) and three introduction were used in this study.
The crosses were ; ILL 5584 x Precoz , Giza9 x Giza370 , Precoz x Pant . L406 and Giza370 x Precoz . Pedigree selection for desirable agoronomic traits was practiced in the successive generations and F 5 families of the four crosses were evaluated.

Results revealed that the four crosses varied in their breeding outcome and the most promising segregant were arosed from crossing between parents from different origin . the family 14 b resulted from cross Precoz x pant . L406, outyielded the higher parent , pant . L 406 and was early in maturity as the earlier parente , Precoz , but lower in protein content . Meantium , this family was earlier in maturity , higher in yield and lower in protein content as compared to the two local cultivars, Giza9 and Giza370 . the four promising familied ( No . 10,42 a, 42 b and 47 a ) produced from Giza 370 x Precoz cross were also higher in yield and late in maturity as the local variety Giza 370 with protein do not significantly differ from that in both parents . the two families ( No. 16 a , 16 b and 40 a) from Giza 9 x Giza 370 cross surpassed the higher respective parents , Precoz and Giza 9 in protein contein content , but these families were inferior in seed yield and late in maturity as the late maturity parents . such promising families , mentioned above , could be further evaluated under different environmental condtions to emphasize their high performance and the extent to which these lines could be used on commercial scale .
