Weed control IN summer potates

Abstract: Field trials carried out in different locations for two years in Egypt revealed that terbutryn or metribuzin , pendimethelin or paraquat applied separately in different treatments at the rate of 1.75 , 0.5 , 2.0 and 0.75 kg a.i . / ha respectively as overall spray when 1-2 % of the potato seedling had emerged gave good control of portulaca oleracea sonchus oleraceus, Rumex dentatus , Capsella bursa – pastoris, Chenopodium spp. and Amaranthus spp.
A better weed control was obtained by applying linuron and paraquat as a tank mix at the rate of 0.5 + 0.5 kg a.i./ ha , or by using one of the ready formulated mixtures i.e. Afalons ( linuron + monolinuron , 1:1 ) or Topogard ( terbutryil + terbuthylazine, 7 : 1 ) at the rate of 1.2 and 1.75 kg a.i . / ha respectively.
In certain fields, an additional treatment by Fluazifop butyl at the rate of 0.6 – 1.2 kg a. i. / ha was necessary for the control of Dinebra retroflexa and / or Cynodon dactylon respectively .
All chemical treatments increased the yield significantly compared to that of the unweeded control.
