Response of Chickpea (Cicer arietium) to chemichal weed control under Egyptian conditions

Abstract: Four field experiments were conducted at Bahteem and Sids during 1982/83 and 1983/84 seasons to study the effect of handweeding and herbicides on controlling weeds and yield of chickpea. Anagallis arvensis, Chenopodium sp., convolvulus
Arvensis, Melilotus sp., Beta vulgaris were the most predominating weeds, in most sites. Meanwhile, Sonchus oleranceus,Brassica nigra, Capsella- bursa pastoris, Euphorbia sp., Polypogon mpnspeliensis, Rumex sp., solanum nigrum were rarely existed. The average reduction in Chickpea due to weed competition was 86 and 46% for seed yield and 81 and 16% straw yield at Bahteem and Sids in 1982/83 season, respectively.
Apparently, igran treatments appeared with wider weed. Control spectrum as compared with other herbicides. From the view point of the performance in weed control, results at Bahteem and Sids showed that weed free, handweeding twice, igran/kerb mixture and igran alone were the most promising treatments and over yielded other ones.
