Effect of camphor leaves ethanol extract and methomyl on liver and kidney of house sparrow and palm dove

Abstract: The present work aims to study the effect of '/4 LDso camphor leaves ethanol extract and Methomyl (insecticide) on total bilirubin, uric acid, creatinine and cholesterol, at intervals 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours post¬treatment in plasma and liver of house sparrow Passer domesticus niloticus and palm dove, Streptopelia senegallus.
LDso for camphor was estimated, and its values was 0.91 mg/kg for house sparrow, 2.64 mg/kg for palm dove and Methomyl LDso was 2.82 mg/kg for house sparrow, 3.99 mg/kg for palm dove.
1. Total bilirubin : '/4 LD4a camphor and Methomyl induced a highly significant increases in plasma total bilirubin and significant decreases in liver bilirubin in house sparrow and palm dove at all tested intervals.
2. Uric acid : at all tested periods, '/4 LDso camphor and Methomyl induced a significant increases in plasma uric acid and a significant reduction in liver uric acid of the two tested birds at all intervals except the 24 and 48 hours post-treatment, the reduction was non¬significant with Methomyl in plasma palm dove.
3. Creatinine : increases were recorded at all intervals in creatinine level with 1/4 LD50 camphor and Methomyl in plasma house sparrow, while increases occurred in plasma creatinine palm dove at 3, 6, 12 hours only. In liver, the same doses induced reduction in creatinine house sparrow and palm dove allover the tested periods.
4. Cholesterol level : '/4 LD50 camphor and Methomyl induced an increases in plasma cholesterol level in house sparrow but at a decrease in plasma cholesterol in palm dove at all intervals, while the same dose induced a slightly variation in liver cholesterol did not changed in palm dove at the beginning of the test and obvious increases recorded at the end of the test.
