Effect of two biocides and two insect growth regulators on esterases activity of cotton Leafworm, Spodoptera Littoralis (Boisd.)

Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of two insect growth regulators (IGRs), chlorofluazuron (IKI -7899) and Tebufenozid (MAC) and two biocides, Bacillus thuringiensis var . kurstaki and Nuclear polyhydrosis virus (NPV) on the cotton leafworm. Spodoptera littoralis. Treatment of 4th instars of S littoralis with IKI-7899, NPV and MAC significantly decreased the activity of non-specific esterases Alpha and beta, while, B. thuringiensis treatment insignificantly decreased this activity. On the other hand, Acetyl-cholinesterase activity was significantly decreased in case of IKI-7899, NPV and MAC treatments and insignificantly increased in B. thuringiensis treatment.
