Enhancement of the cotton leaf worm, spodoptera littoralis (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) nucleopolyhedrovirus activity by spinosad

Abstract: Spinosad (Dow AgroSciences) is a neurotoxin mixture produced during fermentation of a soil actinomycete that has high activity towards Lepidoptera. Diet surface contamination bioassays were performed using the Egyptian cotton leaf worm, Spadoptera littoralis multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpIiNPV) and Spinosad alone and in mixtures. An enhancing effect was detected in mixtures containing SpIiNPV + Spinosad 1.5 ppm. The LCS0 value for neonate larvae was reduced by 169.81 fold with 1.5 ppm Spinosad + SpIiNPV. The treatment containing Spinosad alone did not cause S. littorolis mortality at the concentrations 0.05, 0.5, and 1 ppm. Spinosad+SpliNPV mixture showed effect s on % pupation pupal /adult deformation and °Io adult emergence.
