Predicting population cycles of the black cutworm Agrotis ispilon (hufnagle) [lepidoptera: Nectuidae] by thermal summation

Abstract: Degree - day (dd) accumulation was used as a means of forecasting moth population peaks of Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagle). Moths exhibited cyclic, population peaks at intervals of 645 + 4.961 dd's. These findings should reduce the monitoring period of black cutworm on cotton and other main crops in North and South regions of the Nile Vally by allowing checking of light traps only at critical periods.
