Effect of using some irrigation systems on population of land snails which infest field crops

Abstract: Presented work studies the effect of three irrigation systems; microjet sprinkler, flood and subsurface trickle irrigation which are used in newly reclaimed lands on population fluctuation, active, non active and eggs laying of Monacha cartusiana land snail infesting Egyptian clover . The results showed that the meam numbers of population were 30.50,19., and 13.13 snails for microjet sprinkler, flood and subsurface trickle irrigation, respectively, The mean numbers of active snails were 23.5, 12.13 and 3.83 snails / sample While, for non active snails were 7.,6.87 and 9.29,snails, respectively . The mean numbers of eggs laying were 27.67,18.42 and 4.0 eggs per sample for the three systems, respcctively . The results showed that the microjet irrigation system increased population density, numbers of active snails and eggs laying which showed positive correlation for relative humidity, soil moisture content and negative correlation for temperature at microhabitat The subsurface trickle irrigation decreased the same mention aspects . The flood irrigation which is the common system showed moderate effecís on population density, active, non active and number of eggs Laying, respectively .
