The role of macro and micro elements on the population of Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) on squash plants associated with Squash Leaf Curl Virus

Abstract: The present work was carried out at the Horticulture Research Station, Kaha, Qualubia Governorate through summer season 2008. The area was planted with squash, Cucurbita pepo (Escandarany, variety).
This work aimed to study the following points: effect of spraying macro and micro nutrition elements on population, reduction percentage of Bemisia tabaci, early flowering and plant infection with squash leaf curl virus. Complete fertilizer ( Nitrogen , Phosphorus , Potassium ( NPK) , macro elements , ( Ammonium nitrate ( Am n ) , Potassium ( K ) , Phosphor ( P2O5 ) , Magnesium ( Mg ) ) and micro elements , ( Zinc ( Zn ), Ferror ( Fe ) , Manganese ( Mn ) and Boron ( B ) ) were used to reflect their effect on the adult population of whitefly , reduction percentage , infection percentage with squash leaf curl virus and yield ( number. of flowers ) . The previous tested materials were sprayed three times at the 17th ,24th , and 31st days from seedling ( 7 days intervals between each spray ) .In respect of the three sprayers , the data showed that , Fe , NPK and P2 O5 recorded the highest reduction percent ( 80.4 , 71.2 and 62.3) , respectively. The second spray was characterized by relatively increase reduction % which ranged between 21.5 & 84.1 %. At the third spray NPK , Fe , Am n , P2O5 , Mn and Mg recorded 89.2 , 80.6 , 71.8 , 58.2 , 47.2 and 43.2 , respectively ; while the B recorded the lowest reduction percentage ( 12.0 % ) . Foliage nutrition B gave the highest flowers number ( 70.3 / 10 plants ) and ranked in the first category, causing 18.4 % viral infection and was in first category but the reduction % against B. tabaci adult was low (20.2) .Foliage nutrient Am n , came in the second category for the flower number ( 63.6 flower / 10 plants ) , while its viral infection came in the first category ( 18.0 % ) . Its reduction % against B. tabaci adult was 58.0 %. Zn. Foliage nutrient came in the third category for the flower number (60.3 flower / 10 plants), its viral infection came in the first category (15.4 %), and its reduction % against B. tabaci adult was 29.0 %.
