Using some natural additives to improve physiological and productive performance of broiler chicks under high temperature conditions. 2- Black cumin (Nigella Sativa) or Garlic (Allium Sativum)

Abstract: Three hundreds unsexed day-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were assigned into three groups, 100 birds in each with two replicate floor pens, fed on commercial diet or enriched with grounds of 1% black cumin or garlic under normal conditions. At 35 days of age, each group was divided into equal two sub-groups.
First: still under normal condition 24?C, second: exposed to 38?C for 3 hrs to 6 days from 35 to 40 days of age.
The results indicated that, adding black cumin or garlic as natural feed additives to broiler diets under normal or high temperature conditions were (P<0.05) increased live body weight, weight gain, improved feed conversion, total plasma protein as well as albumin and globulin, plasma glucose and triiodothyonine (T3). The opposite was true with mortality rate, plasma cholestrol, plasma total lipids, creatinine, GOT and GPT which were reduced (P<0.05) Also, there were no significant effects on weights of liver, spleen, bursa of fabricus, intestine and slightly effects on respiration rate, body temperature and minimization the increase on blood pH during heat exposure. There were (P<0.05) decrease on body weight, gain, feed consumption, (T3), plasma glucose, and total proteins while, increases (P<0.05) on mortality rate, body temperature and respiration rate of broiler chicks, corresponding to high temperature conditions.
