Effect of meal feeding frequency on productive performance and some physiological aspects in cattle

Abstract: The present study was conducted at the animal production researches and
Experimental unit at Toukh tanbesha to study the effect of feeding frequency on some productive and reproductive performance and the ingestive behavior feeding frequesy was once ,twice and three times/day.Results revealed that body weight and weight gain were not significantly affected by feeding frequency.Body weight gain increased with the advancement of age f male calves and the opposite was true for the growing heifers . feeding frequency was significantly affected by body length, hight at withers and height at pinbones, While heart girth was not significantly affected by feeding frequency. The 305 days milk yield siginificing increased with increasing of feeding frequency . percentage of increased of milk yield was 19.3% when the cows were fed twice daily versus 25.1% when they were fed 3times daily.
milk fat percent increased significantly with increasing the frequency of feeding, but milk protein ,total solid as solids not fat percent did not increased . milk fat yield , protein yield , total solids yield and solids not fat also significantly increased with increasing feeding frequency.
There was remarkable difference in the ingestive behavior between the lactating cows and growing heifers especially in total eating and total edling time, while the total ruminating time did not consequently differ.
Key words: feeding frequency- productive and reproductive performance -Body measurements of cattle- Ingestive behaviour.
