Evaluation of external and internal egg quality traits, some physiological and immunological traits in two local strains of laying hens.

Abstract: Two hundred and seven pullets at 20 weeks of age, were used in this experiment. These pullets represent two local strains (102 Mandarah strain and 105 El-Salam strains) and twenty cooks, ten from each strain and classification into three replete. All pullets were leg – banded to keep their pedigree during July 2007 to February 2008.
All pullets were individually housed in cages and provided with water and feed ad-libitum containing 16.50% protein and 2724 k cal M.E and kept under similar conditions of management and were artificially inseminated during the experimental period .Average of body gain , feed intake ,feed conversion of total experimental period, egg number , age at sexual maturity (day), body weight at sexual maturity (g) , weight of first egg and number of days to produce first 10 eggs were calculated and recorded , egg production at first , second and three months , external and internal egg quality take at 28,32 , 36 and 40 weeks of age and fertility and hatchability eggs .
Blood samples were withdrawn from the wing vein of nine birds from each strain at 24, 36 and 48 weeks of age for estimated phosphorus, calcium and iron, zinc, total protein and albumen, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, total lipids and triglycerides, alkaline phosphatese, total antioxidant capacity and Newcastle and avian influenza against HS vaccines.
At the end of experiment at 48 weeks nine hens were taken randomly from each strain (18 birds) were weighted, slaughtering, taken blood and some internal organs.
Results indicated that:
- Mandarah strain was higher in most external and internal egg quality traits, productive and reproductive performance compared with El-Salam strain and no significantly differences in average body gain , feed intake and feed conversion between two strains .
- Levels of cholesterol, HDL, LDL, total lipids and triglycerides in plasma, yolk and liver were lower in Mandarah strain, levels of zinc in plasma, yolk and liver were higher in Mandarah strain compared with El-Salam strain.
- Mandarah strain was gave good immunological traits, higher Newcastle and avian influenza against HS vaccines and higher immuno internal organs relative weight compared with El-Salam strain.
- Mandarah strain was gave good external and internal egg quality
with improving productive and reproductive, physiological and immunological performance compared with El-Salam strain.
