Using of biogen-zinc supplementation in finishing ration of buffalo bulls on their fattening performance

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Biogen-Zinc as a probiotic or a Direct Fed Microbial (DFM) containing Bacillus subtilis and zinc methionine, is used as a feed additive for fattening buffalo bulls. Fifteen buffalo bulls of an average 350.7kg initial live body weight were divided into three similar groups, 5 animals in each in a comparative feeding trial (130 days experimental period) using randomized complete block design. Concentrate feed mixture (CFM) 60%, berseem hay (BH) and rice straw (RS) 40% were given without additive to bulls as a control ration (RI) while the other R2 and R3 groups received the same control ration with Biogeo-Zinc (BZ) at levels of 1g/h/d (50 mg Zn) and 2 g/h/d (100 mg Zn) respectively. Three digestibility trials were carried out and rumen fluid samples were collected before-feeding and then at 4 hrs after feeding. Blood samples were collected from all animals at 4 hrs post - feeding as well. Results indicated that digestibility of most nutrients; TDN and DCP were significantly higher with bulls fed R3 and R2 than those fed R1.Ruminal pH values of the tested groups (R2 & R3). were not affected by the addition of BZ Concentration of ruminal NH3-N was significantly higher for the control group than that of the R2 and R3 groups, while VFA's concentrations were increased for the rations supplemented with Biogen-Zinc (R2 and R3) compared to the RI The two levels of BZ led to a significant (P<0.05) increase for total plasma protein, globulin and some metabolic Thyroid hormones ( Triiodothyronine T3 and Thyroxin T4) While, plasma total lipids and cholesterol were significantly increased (P<0.05) compared to those of control group. Using BZ in ration of buffalo bulls gave the best daily gain, economic efficiency, where BZ reduced the total teed cost required to produce 1 kg live body weight.
