Effect of microbial probiotics on performance of broiler chicks under normal or heat stress conditions 2- bacteria concentration or yeast culture

Abstract: Three hundreds unsexed one day old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly distributed into three equal groups of 100 birds each with two replicates floor pens. Chicks were fed a commercial diet or inoculated with 1 kg / ton feed Lacto Sacc (bacteria concentration) or Yea Sacc (yeast culture), respectively. At 35 days of age, each group was divided into two equal sub-groups, the first was kept under normal conditions (24°C) while, the second sub-group was exposed for 6 days to (38°C) for 3 hrs daily from 35 to 40 days of age.
Adding the tested biological additives to broiler diets either normal or high temperature conditions (P<0.05) improved feed conversion, increased live body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, total plasma protein as ,well as albumin and globulin fractions, plasma glucose and triiodothyronine (T3). Whereas, mortality rate, plasma cholesterol and total lipids were reduced (P<0.05). However, creatinine, GPT and GOT enzymes, respiration rates and body temperatures were not affected Furthermore, there were significant (P<0.05) decreases in pH of intestine (Dudenum, Jejunum, Ilium and Caecum) and total count of some pathogenic bacteria (E.coli and Salmonella Pullorum). Moreover, there were significant (P<0.05) decreases in body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, (T3), plasma glucose, total plasma proteins and increase in mortality rate of chicks subjected to that stress. Probiotics improved broiler performances, blood bioche mical, and reduce the deleterious effects of heat stress.
