A comparisons study of the three strains of ducks in Egypt

Abstract: A study was carried out at the Alexandria university during the period from 1990 to 2000 on the three parent ducks Hocks comprised the Pekin, Muscovy and Khaki- Campbell strains. The main results were: (1) The period from one day to 21 days of age: The averages of feed intake for combined sexes were 54.41, 52.84 and 53.61 (g. feed/ duck/ day) and the averages of mortality % were 3.78, 6.05 and 3.49% for Pekin. Muscovy and Khaki-Campbell ducklings, respectively. (2) The period from 4-23 weeks of age: The average of combined sexes live body weights at 4. 8, 12. 16, 20 and 23 weeks of age were 1041.47, 1845.12 2306.31 2746.31 .3141.31 and 3392.98 for the Pekin dukes: 1089.09. 1542.05. 1978.41, 2391.14. 2809.77 and 3112.05 for the Muscovy ducks and 1070.15. 1657.50. 2132.75, 2572.75 .2572.98 .2975.88 and 3229.88 gm. For the Khaki Campbell ducks. respectively. the averages of feed intake (g feed/ duck/ day) during 4-23 weeks of age for the combined sexes were 138 .142 and 143 g. for the Pekin, Muscovy and Khaki- Campbell ducklings. respectiveiy. The averages of feed conversion (g feed/ g gain) for the period of 4-23 weeks of age for the combined sexes were 8.12, 9.93 and 8.79 for the Pekin. Muscovy and Khaki- Campbell ducklings. respectively. The averages of mortality . percentage during 4- 12 and 12- 23 weeks of age were 1.77, 2.62 and 2.26% and 2.06. 2.69 and 2.20 for Pekin. Muscovy and Khaki- Campbell ducks, respectively.
