Productive and reproductive performance of buffaloes fed on rations supplemented with biogen- zinc at late pregnancy period

Abstract: The present work was conducted to study the effect of using different levels of Biogen –Zinc (as aprobiotic) supplemented with zinc as zinc methionine on the nutrients digestibility, nutritive values, ruminal characteristics ,some blood parameters, birth weight of their offspring, milk yield, milk composition and some
reproductive parameters of the experimental buffaloes. Thirty buffaloes (3 to 5 parities) at late pregnancy period were divided into three similar groups (10 buffaloes each). Concentrate feed mixture (CFM),berseem hay (BH)and rice straw (RS)were given to animals as a control ration (RI)without additive, while, the other groups R2 and R3 received the control ration supplemented with Biogen –Zinc (BZ)at level s of 2.5g/h/d an d 3.5 g/h/d ,respectively). All treated animals were received BZ supplementation at three months before parturition and continued for six months after parturition.
The results indicated that the different levels of BZ had improved all nutrients digestibility, TDN, DCP, feed efficiency, milk yield and its composition. Birth weights of newborn calves were higher in group R2 and R3 compared with that of the control group. Moreover, addition of BZ elevated concentrations of plasma total protein, glucose, and total lipids. Supplementation with BZ showed significant differences (P<0.05) among groups in the number of services per conception and calving interval .The interval required for each of pregnant uterus to return intra-pelvic, postpartum cervical closure and uterine horns symmetry were earlier (P<0.05) in treated R3 and R2 groups than control group.
Generally, it can be concluded that BZ supplementation in buffaloes rations improved nutrients digestibility, milk productivity and maintained the reproductive performance of treated animals.
