Genetic evaluation for the effect of crossing between commercial laying strain with some local chicken strains on some production performance and physiological parameters

Abstract: Local developed strains of chickens, Silver Montazah (SM), Inshase (IN) and Matrouh (Mt) with one commercial strain Lohman selected Leghorn (LSL) were mated to produce the three way-crosses (Mt x LSL x SM) and (Mt x LS L x IN). The objectives of this study were to study the genetic similarity between hybrids and commercial strain using Random amplyphysim polymorphisem DNA (RAPD-PCR) markers and to compare the three way-crosses and the commercial strain for some production and physiologic traits. Pullets of LSL strain matured significantly earlier (151.3 d) compared with both of three way-cross (Mt x LSL x SM and Mt x LS L x IN (154.67 and 160.7 d), respectively. Crossbred Mt x LSL x IN had superior annual egg production (172 eggs) than Mt x LSL x SM cross (154eggs). The LSL strain bad significantly the heaviest eggs and the highest egg mass during the first 52 wks of production (63.1 and 10710 g, respectively) compared with the -three way-crosses. The LSL strain significantly the highest values of plasma Estrodiol 17 β (E2) hormone concentration and E2/P4 ratio compared to the local strains. However, the two crossbreds had significantly the highest values of plasma E2, P4 hormones and E2/P 4 ratio compared with the pure strains. Increasing both of plasma E2 and E2/P 4 ratio of LSL strain and crossbred chickens are correlated with higher egg production traits, whereas, the EN, EW and. EM of LSL crossbreds during the two periods studies were significantly higher than pure strain. Positive heterosis percentage for body weight at sexual maturity, annual egg number and annual egg mass of the 3-way cross were found, while the age at sexual maturity, egg production traits during the 1st 90 day and annual egg weight had negative heterosis percentage. DNA was extracted from blood of the LSL strain and the 3-way crosses. RAPD-PCR technique was applied to detect genetic similarity among chicken hybrid and the high parent using six short oligonucleotideds primers. Whereas, the 3-way crosses genetic similarity % was estimated as 37% between the 3-way cross (Mt x LSL x SM) and LSL and 33% between the 3-way cross (Mt x LSL x IN) and LSL strain based on RAPD-PCR.
Generally, The three-way crosses improved age at sexual maturity (157.39 d) and annual egg number (162.76 eggs), also, increased plasma E2 and P4 hormones concentration compared to the pure strain. The result of DNA analysis indicated that genetic similarity may coincide with percent heterosis and this result agreed with the results of economic traits and hormones analysis.
