Comparative studies between Mannhemia(Pasteurella) haemolytica isolated from pneumonic lungs of camal calves and lambs through histopathological examination and cytotoxic effect

Abstract: Manheimia haemolytica was isolated from 4 out of 54(7.5%) pneumonic lung specimens of camel calves (about 9-12months old) and from 11out of 25(44%)pneumonic lung specimens of lambs(up to 3 months old).Histopathological examination of those lung specimens revealed multiple haemorrhagic areas and eosinophilic exudates consisted of fibrin network and mixed with lymphocytes and histiocytes in the alveolar lumina in the camel calves lungs and deposition of fibrin in the interlobular septa and lumen of the alveoli together with multifocal necrotic areas surrounded by lymphocytes and histiocytes in the lambs lung. More cytotoxic effects were seen on MDBK cells inoculated with lamb,s M. Haemolytica cytotoxins at different hours of incubation than that of camel calves. In addition , the virulence of lamb,s M. haemolytica was 100% compared with that of camel calves (70%). The present studies revealed that M. isolated from pneumonic lumgs of lambs differ in its histopathologic and cytotoxic effects that isolated from camel calves. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy showed brush-like surface cell wall of lamb,s M. Haemolytica which appeared smooth in that of camel calves and this considered the first recent record in the camel,s studies.
