Using dimethyl diphenyl bicarboxylate (DDB) as antierythromycin hepatotoxicity in goat and rat.

Abstract: Forty female albino rats and twenty female goats were used in the current study. Each species was divided into four equal groups. The animals of the 1st., group was served as a control, the animals of the 2nd., group of each species intramuscularly injected with toxic doses of 100 and 55 mg erythromycin/kg. b.w. in rat and goat respectively. The 3rd., group was orally administered with 2 mg DDB/kg.b.w. (for each rat and goat), and the 4th., group treated with erythromycin along with DDB (as the mentioned doses). Experimental duration continued for 14 and 3 days in rats and goat respectively. Histochemical, Clinical Biochemical, Haematological and Histopathological studies were carried out. Results indicated that DDB treatment along with erythromycin reduced NADH-Diaphorase and ALT enzyme activities , total Bilirubin concentration and revealed few degenerative changes of hepatocytes and promoting increase in the body weight. In contrast, the reverse above effects with erythromycin when treated alone, was induced the hepatotoxicity. But DDB failed to normalizing the hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and hypoalbuminemia which were induced by erythromycin toxicity. Based on our study DDB may used as hepatoprotection against erythromycin hepatotoxicity and as a growth promoter.
