Genital mycoplasmas of cows and ewes in Egypt

Abstract: Genital mycoplasmas in cows and ewes in Egypt were investigated. Vaginal mucous samples from 73 cows and 92 ewes were cultured for mycoplasmas.
Biochemical characterization and serological identification of 42 strains (23 bovine and 19 ovine ) revealed the occurrence of M. bovigenitalium , M. bovis , A. laidlawii A.oculi in cattle. On the other hand, M. ovipneumoniae, M. bovigenitalium, M. agalactiae, M. arginini, A .laidlawii and A. oculi were identified from sheep.
While M. bovigenitalium was identified from cows suffering from vaginitis and endometeritis, it was reported for the first time from ewes suffering from vaginitis.
A. laidlawii and A. oculi were isolated from apparently normal cows and ewes and A. oculi from cows suffering with endometeritis.
