The use of indirect fluorescent antibody technique in diagnosis of C. ovis infection

Abstract: Primary trials to use indirect fluorescent antibody technique to detect immune bodies to C. ovis in rabbits and sheep experimentally infected were conducted.
Specific fluorescence was demonstrated when the homologous C. ovis antigen reacted with the prepared immune sera. A maximum titer of 1:64 was reached after3-4 injections into rabbits using both dead and living C. ovis organism.
Hyper immune serum prepared in rabbits was successfully applied in diagnosis of C. ovis microorganisms in natural cases.
Both bovine and ovine C. ovis strains are antigenically related as shown by the cross-reaction of antisera to both antigens.
Low titer of antibodies ( FAT) appeared for short period after experimentally infection of sheep.
Immunity to C. ovis is still a subject of controversy, but it seems to be related more to cell-mediated type.
