Isolation of mycoplasmas from the genital tracts of cows and ewes in Egypt

Abstract: Genital mycoplasmosis in cows and ewes in Egypt was investigated. Vaginal mucous samples from 73 cows and 92 ewes were cultured for mycoplasmas.
Biochemical characterization and serological identification of 42 strains ( 23 bovine and 19 ovine) revealed the occurrence of M. bovigenitalium, M. bovis, A. laidlawii, A. oculi in cattle and M. ovipneumoniae, M. bovigenitalium, M. agalactiae,M. arginini , A. laidlawii and A. oculi in sheep.
M. bovigenitalium was isolated from cows suffering from vaginitis, and endometeritis and the same species for the first time from ewes sufferering from vaginitis.
While A. laidlawii , A. oculi were isolated from apparently normal cows. A. oculi was recovered from cows suffering from endometeritis.
